Grand Palace

This is Bangkok's number one attraction. The Grand Palace complex has been the official home of the King since 1782, when it was built under Rama I who transfered the capital of Siam from Thonburi to Bangkok.

Phu Khao Thong

The Golden Mount is a steep artificial hill inside the Wat Saket compound. The modern Wat Saket was built in the early 20th century of Carrara marble. An annual festival is held every November, featuring a candle procession up Phu Khao Thong to the chedi. It is now a popular Bangkok tourist attraction and has become one of the symbols of the city.

Wat Pho

Wat Pho is also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. It is located near the Grand Palace on Rattanakosin Island. The temple complex covers 80,000m² making it one of the largest templea, as well as being one of the oldest. Wat Pho was constructed about 200 years before Bangkok became the capital but was rebuilt under Rama I.

Democracy Monument

The Democracy Monument is a public monument in the centre of Bangkok. It occupies a traffic circle on the wide east-west Ratchadamnoen Avenue, at the intersection of Dinso Road. The monument is roughly halfway between Sanam Luang, the former royal cremation ground in front of Wat Phra Kaew, and the temple of the Golden Mount (Phu Kao Thong).

Wat Phra Kaeo

This temple is more commonly known as Temple of the Emerald Buddha; it is one of the city's most historic temples and is located close to the Grand Palace. The temple's claim to fame and main attraction is the Phra Kaew Morakot, the Emerald Buddha which was carved out of a single piece of jade.

Wat Arun

Wat Arun, locally known as Wat Chaeng, is situated on the west (Thonburi) bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is easily one of the most stunning temples in Bangkok, not only because of its riverside location, but also because the design is very different to the other temples you can visit in Bangkok. Wat Arun (or temple of the dawn) is partly made up of colourfully decorated spires and stands majestically over the water.
